Hi Frances,

Apologies for the late reply — we’ve been very busy with a few ongoing projects and tight deadlines at the moment. We’d definitely like to take this on for you, it’s just been a bit difficult to fit everything in.

I’ve spoken with the guys and unfortunately everyone is fully booked this weekend, so we won’t be able to do it then. We can definitely arrange another date that suits you.

If you’re happy to leave the key with Ford, that works perfectly for me — it gives me flexibility to either pop in between jobs or organise a full day for your place.

I’ve seen the photo and your notes (no lower skirting, small top shelf, door frame finished with blocks), which helps a lot. I just need you to confirm the exact panel style you’d like.

I also need to confirm the top shelf detail, because that part needs a bit more thought and time during installation. I need to know what size you want it to be, whether you want it all the way around like in your photo, and roughly how deep you’d like it — for example 100mm, 120mm, bigger or smaller.

If the top shelf is meant to be functional and not just decorative, it also needs to be fixed properly so it is stable and secure.

It might be worth visiting Wickes or B&Q — they usually have these in stock so you can see the quality in person.

Some examples below:

Timber boards (tongue & groove / matchboard):
B&Q tongue & groove cladding
Wickes V-jointed cladding
B&Q matchboard cladding
TradePoint tongue & groove

MDF panels / ready-made options:
Primed MDF matchboard
Panelling kit

There’s also an option to make custom panels from MDF using a router, like we did by hand on Ford’s bedroom wardrobe doors, but that is more labour-intensive.

Before I can give you a final price, I just need to confirm:

  • panel type you prefer
  • top shelf size and detail
  • whether the shelf is meant to be decorative only or functional
  • corner trims if needed
  • painting — whether you want us to do it or you’ll do it

Once I have that, I can give you an accurate quote.

I’m happy to collect the materials, but it’s best if you choose the style so it’s exactly how you want it.

Let me know what you think 🙂

Best regards,
Andrzej
